Aaron Keim has a habit of
getting himself into situations that he is not ready for. Then, when
the heat is on, he lives up to these high expectations and explores
his new path. This has led him to a diverse and fulfilling career as
performer, writer/scholar, teacher and luthier and has gained him a
reputation as a true renaissance man As a performer, Aaron is
mostly seen touring with indie folk string band Boulder Acoustic
Society. He also plays in the old-timey duo Flatfoot and with his wife
Nicole. Although trained on the french horn in college, Aaron has
taught himself to play the string bass, guitar, banjo and ukulele
since 2000. In 2005, Aaron and Nicole released "Born in the Country
Raised in Town," which features their diverse folk/blues/jazz tastes.
Aaron honed his writing skills while working on his master's degree in
music history at CU-Boulder. His specialty is depression-era string
bands and roots music culture. You may have read some of his work in
Fretboard Journal, Old Time Herald, Pow'r Pickin, Fret Knot Magazine
and Uke Mag. While teaching public school orchestra fresh out of
college, Aaron taught himself how to repair the musical instruments
that the budget left behind. When Aaron is on the road, he often
teaches workshops on ukulele, old time banjo, fingerstyle guitar and
string bass. When he is home, he pays the bills teaching lessons to
people eager to learn from his diverse knowledge.
Warren Kennison Jr.
Banjo/Mandolin/Fiddle
warrenkennisonjr@aol.com 303.482.6215
Warren is well known around the country for his playing and singing.
Born in Seattle, and raised in Denver CO and Detroit, after mastering
folk style banjo in his early teens, he began learning Scruggs style
at Earl Gormaine's Pick and Strum Shop in Royal Oak, Michigan. Soon he
was asked to teach at Herb David’s Guitar Studio in Ann Arbor. Then in
1965 Earl Scruggs asked him to help produce the all-time best selling
instruction book and record, Earl Scruggs and the 5-String Banjo.
After fulfilling his government service in 1967-68 as a computer
technician and VISTA volunteer in WV, he moved west and has become
known as one of Colorado's favorite banjo players. When bluegrass
greats including Bill Monroe, Hylo Brown, Josh Graves and Kenny Baker
asked who could back them during local appearances, one name came to
mind. His ability to naturally fill in on banjo and guitar/vocals led
to job offers to join both Monroe’s Bluegrass Boys and Brown’s Timber
liners. He has helped launch the careers of a number of aspiring
bands, including Colorado's own, Hot Rize. And just recently his
greatest thrill was being invited to perform with Earl Scruggs and
Friends at this year’s Oklahoma International Bluegrass Festival.
Warren is the banjo, mandolin, finger-style guitar player, fiddler,
and tenor vocalist in True Blue Grass.
